Saidou Daoura Expert Newsletter NigerAn important workshop to develop a communication strategy and establish a certified web TV platform for the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) opened in Bamako, Mali, on August 22, 2024. The event, chaired by Mali’s Minister of Communications, Digital Economy and Administrative Modernization, brought together communications and digital experts from the three member states of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

The main objective of this workshop is to develop a communication strategy that meets the information and communication needs of the people of the three countries. Discussions will focus on the general outlines of the strategy and a timetable for joint communication actions aimed at promoting development and common interests.

The move follows the signing of the Liptako-Gourma Charter on September 16, 2023, which formally established the AES. This alliance marks a decisive step towards unified leadership and enhanced cooperation in Africa, with a focus on collective security, mutual assistance and socio-economic integration.

In a context where many platforms on social networks spread information in the name of the Alliance, it is essential that the AES deploys effective communication to counter disinformation, ensure the support of its citizens and assert its position on the international stage.

Bringing together Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, the African Union embodies a new vision for African sovereignty in the face of complex security and political challenges. It also aims to strengthen local resilience and effectively communicate its message to an international community that is often influenced by major powers.
