LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jin, the oldest member of the South Korean pop supergroup BTS, will carry the Paris Olympic torch after recently completing his mandatory military service.

The 31-year-old singer, who completed his 18-month military service last month, is expected to represent South Korea in the torch relay and hopes to spread a message of “harmony” and “peace,” a statement said.

Kim and other torchbearers plan to visit various historical sites in the host country. The exact schedule has not yet been revealed.

The torch relay begins in April.

Jin will begin his military service at a frontline military training camp in South Korea in late 2022. Other members of his group, including Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM, and J-Hope, are currently serving their military service.

The day after his discharge from the military, Jin hosted BTS’ annual debut anniversary celebration FESTA in Seoul, which included food, performances, and dance challenges.
