June 13, 2024 (Witness)—— Fifty East Timorese are to be deported from the UK next month for entering the country illegally.
The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito Freitas, at the end of a meeting in Dili with the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta.
“We are facing a difficult situation in England because on July 7daythe British government will deport 500 foreigners, including 50 East Timorese,” Freitas said.
He said the British government amended immigration laws to control the illegal entry of foreigners.
The 50 East Timorese were to be deported because they were working in the UK using their East Timorese passports, which is considered illegal.
