The longest bridge on the Pan-European Transport Corridor VC “Herzegovina” has been subjected to a load of 480 tons, which confirms that the cracks discovered at the beginning of the year have been repaired and the Bosnia and Herzegovina Motorway Association announced that it will soon be repaired and open to traffic.
At the beginning of this year, two cracks were found on the nearly one-kilometer-long bridge connecting the two banks of the Neretva River near Pochitelje, not far from Čapljina. Repair work took several months.
The cracks occurred after the steel cables inside the bridge structure were tensioned.
Today, 12 tractors loaded with 40 tons of sand arrived at the bridge construction site and were tested in cooperation with experts from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy of the University of Mostar.
“The test results show that the performance of the bridge meets the design conditions,” said Ismet Hajduk, chief engineer of bridges and facilities on the Pochitergi-Zverovichi section.

The bridge, called “Herzegovina”, is part of a motorway being built on the Pan-European Corridor Vc through Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is slightly shorter, less than a kilometer in length, but more than a hundred meters in height.
It connects central Herzegovina with the A1 motorway in Dalmatia and Croatia.
The construction has a total value of €32.8 million and is financed with funds from the European Investment Bank and a grant from the European Union, provided through the Western Balkans Investment Framework as part of the Connectivity Agenda.
The Herzegovina Bridge is one of the highest bridges in the region and one of the most complex structures on the Corridor 5C highway.
