largeA Zaventem airport spokesman said the entire Brussels Airport terminal was liberated early Sunday morning, around 2 a.m., ending a bomb alarm that was triggered around 11 p.m. All controls were negative.

As a safety measure, the departure hall and baggage area were evacuated to allow police to thoroughly check the premises after receiving a “suspicious report”. The baggage hall was the first to be cleared shortly after 1:30, with some passengers waiting around 2:30.

Hundreds of passengers and numerous crew members were effectively asked to wait in the terminal and were not allowed to reach the baggage hall while they awaited word from police. Others were not allowed to leave the plane to avoid overcrowding at border control.

According to messages posted on social networks, all these people can now enter the baggage hall, but the waiting times seem to be long.
