The body of a young Surinamese woman was found in a hotel in Guyana last Monday.
The case concerns Gaitree Katrain, 25, born in Guyana, with Surinamese documents and living in Boskamp, Suriname. The woman’s body was discovered by hotel staff on the afternoon of Monday, July 15.
Investigations by the Guyana Police have revealed that the woman must have died sometime between the morning of Sunday, July 14, and the afternoon of Monday, July 15.
Waterkant.Net editors learned from sources in Guyana that the woman checked in alone on Thursday morning and was set to check out at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 15. During her stay, she left the room and returned to the hotel regularly.
When she had not checked out on Monday afternoon, staff investigated and found her dead.
Her body was lying facedown on the bed with a white teacup next to her head. Two bottles of a red substance believed to be gasoline were found next to the bed and in the sink.
The body was then taken to the hospital where the doctor on duty confirmed her death. An autopsy is currently pending.
The Guyana Police are investigating the case.
