Galagodaatte Gnanasara Bhikkhu, secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organisation, told reporters that at least 5,000 monks who are not politically influenced will attend the Sangha meeting in the next two to three weeks.
The monk also said that in the 76 years of independence, successive leaders have ruled the country according to their own policies.
The monk said leaders of political parties — President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Samaj Jana Balavega leader Sajith Premadasa and National Jana Balavega leader Anurag Kumara Dissanayake should present their policies to the Maha Sinhalese Samaj at the meeting.
“People don’t want to hear about constitutional amendments or bills of parliament. They want solutions to everyday problems, like managing expenses and educating their children,” the monk said.
Therefore, the Bodubara Sena has decided to bring together major political leaders on the same platform to announce a common policy to allow the people to take an informed decision on the new president, the monk further said.
