The 2024 Standard Bank Half Marathon Corrida Azul will be held on August 25 in the city of Maputo and this year is part of the celebrations of the bank’s 130th anniversary. Above all, the Blue Race is an event that aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and sport in Mozambique.
Standard Bank supports sports for health and therefore includes this modality in its social responsibility actions and encourages everyone to contribute to its development. The tournament will also be held in the cities of Beira and Nampula, on dates to be announced, including Maputo, with a global prize of approximately 800,000 meticais.
In addition to the usual 21km and 7km events, the event will include a 30km event in Maputo for the first time, with a total of 5,000 athletes expected to participate, 3,000 of whom will be registered in Maputo and 1,000 each in Beira and Nampula. In both cities, the Blue Race will include a 12km category.
However, as Standard Bank focuses on inclusion and diversity, in all three cities the competition will include a wheelchair category.
The Maputo event, whose motto is “130 Years of Sport”, opens on August 8 and can only be entered through applications made on the bank’s website www.standardbank.co.mz.
In addition to registration, the app will also provide race route maps and athlete information, which will provide a more complete experience for participants. One of Standard Bank’s goals for this event is to make the event more attractive and popular.
To this end, plans are underway to create an event space for participants, including gymnastics, martial arts performances, fitness product displays and a health expo. As a way to reduce the environmental impact of the competition, a selective waste collection system will be established along the route, and recycled and disposable materials will be used.
