Every July 5, the Andalusian Parliament commemorates the birth anniversary of Blas Infante Pérez de Vargas, considered the father of Andalusian nationalism. Ivante was first and foremost a fierce opponent of the military dictatorship under Miguel Primo de Rivera y Orbaneja (1923-1930) and Francisco Franco. His arrogance would prove fatal to him. On August 11, 1936, Blas Infante was assassinated by the Caudillo militia in Seville.
