Brazil’s Air Force announced late Friday that authorities had found the black box of the crashed passenger plane with 61 people on board in a residential area in Venedo, Sao Paulo state.

No one on board survived the accident which occurred on Friday afternoon.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear. The Air Force said it would examine the recovered cockpit conversation recorder and flight data recorder as soon as possible, but warned that the results would depend on the extent of the damage to the boxes.

The Veneto city government previously told the German News Agency (dpa) that a plane carrying 61 people crashed in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on Friday, leaving no survivors.

A Brazilian city confirmed the crash had killed 61 people.

Voipas Airlines reported that there were 57 passengers and four crew members on board.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva asked participants in the event in the south of the country to observe a minute’s silence for the victims.

“Very sad news,” Lola said in a post on the X app. “My deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends.”

The G1 news website cited Vinedo authorities as saying the plane crashed in a residential area with residents of a nearby building present. However, G1 said no one was injured in the accident.
