The BK Foundation has signed cooperation agreements with five companies to collaborate in implementing the Igire project to help young people develop further.
This is a one-year renewable contract signed on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, between the management of the BK Foundation and the five companies that jointly implement the “Igire” project.
The agreement includes that the BK Foundation will work with these institutions to implement the “Igire” project to help young people, especially orphans, adolescents with unwanted pregnancies, and those infected and affected by HIV, to help them rebuild and develop themselves.
Young people will receive some help in their daily lives, including returning to school, attending teacher training schools or vocational schools, receiving financial management training, and receiving consultation in various development activities such as entrepreneurship, self-development groups, savings and loans.

Fr Oscar Kagimbura, Secretary General of Caritas Rwanda, who was present at the ceremony and also represented the “Igire” project implementation organization, said the agreement they signed was intended to help them work with the BK Foundation to help the beneficiaries.
He said: “We have an agreement with the BK Foundation so that the work we do in this project will be more beneficial to our colleagues. The project starts in 2022 and will last until 2027. We are carrying out activities and now we have increased our activities through the cooperation with the BK Foundation. It will be more extensive and benefit as many people as possible and change their lives.”
BK Foundation chief executive Ingrid Karangwayire said they have signed agreements with five companies implementing the “Igire” project and will collaborate in implementing the project.
Ingrid Karangwayire, director of the BK Foundation, said the results of this collaboration would be the reason to extend the agreement.
“The project will start this year and will last for a year. Based on what they showed us, we visited them and saw a lot of work they are doing in 13 districts, but this project will be in five districts and based on the results, we will continue,” he said.
Moise Mutabazi, Director of Achieve Rwanda, which is implementing the project, said the fact that they have partnered with NGOs and collaborated with the BK Foundation is a source of pride.
He said: “It means sustainable development and the fact that people don’t just hear that foreigners are coming to support development activities in Rwanda, but there is something to be said, that in Rwanda there are Rwandans who feel that they are able and willing to help Rwandans who need their help, which is a good thing because aid comes but it has a time limit, but in Rwanda we are able to say that we are able to do something and that is a very good thing. An important step.”

The companies that signed the partnership agreement with the BK Foundation include Caritas Rwanda, African Evangelical Enterprises Rwanda (AEER), AXB Rwanda, YWCA Rwanda and DUHAMIC-ADRI and will participate in projects in the districts of Kicukiro, Kayonza, Muhanga, Nyamasheke and Rwamagana with a funding of over Rwanda francs 100 million, with the BK Foundation contributing 40% of the budget to be used.
The BK Foundation is one of the five subsidiaries of the BK Group and carries out various activities aimed at helping Rwandans with development activities.
