Many of them had been stationed there for hours, hoping only to see their entourage leave on a nearby road at some point during the day, although they could also leave by helicopter, or even tomorrow.

Trump, who was seen in good shape yesterday within hours of the attack, walking down the stairs of a plane on his own when he arrived at Newark airport, has pledged to attend tomorrow’s Republican National Convention, where his candidacy will be announced and where he can name his vice-presidential nominee.

On Sunday, a group of Trump fanatics took advantage of the presence of reporters and braved the sweltering heat to hold a small pro-Trump demonstration near an intersection, joined by residents of this sparsely populated rural area.

Countless vehicles passed by them, constantly honking their horns to support them, or sticking their thumbs out of the windows to encourage them. Many of them held American flags fluttering in the wind, or others with slogans like “Make America Great Again”.

One of the protesters, Nancy, 65, wearing a xerographic dress with a montage of photos of former presidents, assured that God has marked everyone’s destiny and that yesterday was not Trump’s time; regarding the attackers, he said that “all those who hate Trump know that only by killing him can their victory be stopped”.

Miguel Madero, a Puerto Rican construction worker who rides a Harley-Davidson, believes that only Trump “can save the country from socialism,” an idea he says all the clients he talks politics with share.

All participants in this small demonstration blamed the media for what happened yesterday, because according to them, the “mainstream” media has been spreading hate speech against Republicans, especially Donald Trump, for some time, which led to this assassination attempt.
