The 2024 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-20 Championship was held in Nepal yesterday, with Bhutan losing to India by one goal in the first leg.
Bhutan captain Padma Sampo said Bhutan’s team played very well in terms of technique, professionalism and teamwork in the first leg against India.
Indian midfielder Mini Rul Molla opened the scoring in the 36th minute as Bhutan displayed a variety of skills against the 10-year-old but found it difficult to score.
What was unusual about the match was that the referee issued three red cards to two of the players, one to an Indian player and another to a Bhutanese player.
During the break, the Bhutanese players can participate in activities according to the coach’s schedule and strategy, and play a maximum of one hardcore game.
However, Bhutan failed to score a single goal and ultimately won the match.
