The Self-Defense Forces sent letters to several Spanish political parties to open up bilateral dialogue channels, strengthen party cooperation and realize the aspirations of the brotherly peoples of Morocco and Spain.

According to a statement from the party itself, it has sent a message to a number of Spanish political parties and groups within the framework of the dialogue initiative, believing in the importance and necessity of party cooperation to achieve the aspirations of the peoples of the two neighboring countries, based on the good relations that bind the two countries together, by virtue of the geography and the future that unite them, and by the common humanity that brings them together through … this day.

The statement received by the electronic newspaper Hespress added, “The party affirms in this message that efforts to purify the common memory require frank and constructive dialogue, resolution of various outstanding issues, mutual recognition of grievances and common history, and efforts to achieve sustainability of strategic relations based on mutual understanding and respect, respect for national sovereignty and unity, for the benefit of the peoples of the two neighboring countries and in their common interests.”

In its letter, the Front calls on the Spanish political parties to discuss ways of cooperation at the level of “preparing a common memory” and to work on drafting an action plan that includes practical steps to achieve this goal, as it is confident that the political parties of the Kingdom of Spain are ready to approach all matters with them, to jointly resolve outstanding political, legal and humanitarian issues with sufficient calm and responsibility, and to create a common memory and space to objectively rewrite a common history under the supervision of experts.

The political body also expressed its full readiness to freely propose ideas for joint cultural and educational projects and programs that would strengthen this effort, thereby opening new horizons for bilateral relations and reinforcing the bonds of friendship and understanding in support of the efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco and Spain, led by King Mohammed VI and King Philippe VI.

In response, Mustafa Benali, secretary general of the Democratic Forces Front party, said the group aims to emphasize the cleansing of common memory from the impurities of the past as it is essential to move towards a common destiny for the democratic forces of the people of the region.

The Frente president added that “we first communicated with the Spanish parties because of the importance of decolonization between the two countries”, noting that “the initiative could include Portuguese parties in the future, given the shared memory between the two peoples that is full of the results of historical events, but also the conviction of the need for cooperation and integration to face future challenges.”
