Tim Burton’s 1988 sequel Beetlejuice The film will premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, with actor Michael Keaton set to reprise his role as the demon causing chaos, organizers said on Tuesday.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice It will kick off the grand festival in Venice Lido from August 28 to September 7 and will be featured in the competition.
The film, released 36 years after the original, cemented the 72-year-old Burton’s reputation as a master of unique, eccentric fantasy films marked by visual effects and gothic horror.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice “This is the long-awaited return of one of the most iconic characters from Tim Burton’s films,” said festival director Alberto Barbera.
Barbera called Burton “one of the most fascinating directors of his time” and said the sequel was “full of astonishingly creative imagination and mesmerizingly hallucinatory rhythms.”
Actors Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder will reprise their original roles.
The film also stars Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe.
Burton’s thirty-year career includes Edward Scissorhands (1990), Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Alice in Wonderland (2010).
