Nine wildfires are burning in the area, three of which are Shuswap The area is either listed as controlled or contained.
That’s according to an update on the five fires released Saturday by British Columbia’s wildfire management unit.

The Lower Blueberry Creek Fire, located in the hills above Dusniel Bay, has burned just under one hectare (0.8) and is believed to be contained.
The fire was discovered on July 17 and is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.
About four kilometres north of the site is the McNome Creek Fire, which is 0.8 hectares in size but is remote and out of control. The cause of the fire is suspected to be dry lightning.
The Columbia-Shuswap Regional Fire Department said nine airborne firefighters and a heavy-lift helicopter were working to battle the blaze.

Going slightly south, you will see a fire 32 kilometers north of Sicamous.
The unnamed event (K41062) burned an estimated 1.5 hectares and was said to be out of control. The event was located in a remote area, approximately one kilometre west of the mouth of the Hunakewa River, which flows into Shuswap Lake.
About seven kilometers southeast of that fire, across Shuswap Lake, is the Four Mile Creek Fire.
Another remote fire, believed to be contained, was burning half a hectare and was burning in steep terrain about 27 kilometres north of Sicamous.
The Mara Hill wildfire broke out 9 kilometres southeast of Sicamous and the fire area is estimated to be 19.2 hectares.
It is listed as out of control but, like the rest, is in a remote area.
“The fire is located in extremely steep terrain and is inaccessible to firefighters. Aircraft continue to monitor the fire,” the district said.
A local fire, the Yard Creek fire, 13 kilometres west of here, is considered under control.
The estimated area burned by the Mara Hill fire is 19.2 hectares.

Earlier on Saturday, British Columbia’s wildfire management unit warned that thunderstorms earlier this week could lead to lightning fires for residents this weekend.
While hiking back to the North Shuswap River, BCWS crews discovered three fires burning in a remote area with a three-kilometre radius approximately 18 kilometres northeast of Seymour Bay.
One fire was detected on Friday and the remaining two were detected on Sunday. All fires are currently classified as small fires.
According to the British Columbia Wildfire Authority, there are 30 wildfires burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre. Of those, 24 are said to be caused by lightning strikes and three by human activity. The remaining four are of unknown cause.
“We’ve had some lightning activity across the region this week,” said fire information officer Aydan Coray. “There were about 300 lightning strikes across the fire centre area (Wednesday).
“On Thursday, we had 50 lightning strikes, and on Friday, we had seven. So, we’re still seeing a lot of lightning activity.”
Corey said the lightning was not accompanied by rainfall, which increases the risk of wildfires.
“So we’re monitoring this very closely, looking for new starting points, using our new aircraft to look for those new starting points and taking appropriate action,” Korey said.
