In recent months, Bayern Munich has also sounded out Louis van Gaal in the search for a new coach. The Dutchman revealed this on the RTL program “Humberto à Paris” on Friday.
“Bayern Munich asked me. Then I was very surprised,” he said. Van Gaal, who turns 73 next week, was in charge of the German top club between 2009 and 2011, eventually joining forces with former Red Devil Vincent Kompany.
Van Gaal does not plan to continue as a club coach. However, he has not ruled out the possibility of serving as the head coach of the national team. His last time as the head coach of the Netherlands national team was at the 2022 World Cup and he currently serves as a consultant for Ajax.
Kompany was appointed as Bayern’s new coach at the end of May. This ended a week-long coaching soap opera after Thomas Tuchel left. Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Austria national team coach Ralf Rangnick, Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner and Benfica coach Roger Schmidt all thanked him, and the attempt to renew Tuchel’s contract also ended in failure.

Van Gaal has also had a long history of failing health, but says he is getting better. “I’m fine. After three years of radiotherapy, kidney infection, prostate surgery, I can finally cope. I can urinate naturally again, which is important. But I can no longer have sex, which is a problem,” he admitted.
The Dutchman is not immediately afraid of death. “You don’t die easily from prostate cancer. Of course some people die from that disease, but most die from another disease. “I’m not really afraid, but I find my life is not that interesting anymore,” he said.
