The villagers said there was no doubt that the Jah farming project would completely change the status quo in the Sami district.
The Bayaba community made these remarks at the recent inauguration of a 7 kilometre road 100% funded by Jah Oil CEO Hamidou Jah, which connects Karantaba Wolof to the Bayaba Rice Farm (now Jah Rice Farm).
Bayaba village chief Dulabah said the project came at the right time as the people of Bayaba village had been eager to start a rice production project like the Jah farming project.
“We appreciate this noble agricultural project in our community,” he added.
He said the Jah agricultural project was of great significance to his community, as it would increase rice production and productivity and create jobs for people in Bayaba village and throughout the Sami region.
“This project is very important for the Sami people,” he added, “because rice production is our staple food and is of great importance.”
He said the Gambian people would realise the significance of embracing the Jah agricultural project.
He highly praised the vision of Jah Oil CEO Hamidou Jah in bringing such a project to their doorstep. He also promised that the people of Bayaba will work closely with CEO Jah and the team to realize the project.
He further used the opportunity to commend the elders of Bayaba village for their support for the project. He urged the people to continue to cooperate with CEO Jah and the team at the work site and take full ownership of the project.
Mr Bah commended CEO Jah for bringing such a project to their doorstep and called on the community to grab their opportunity.
Sinchu Baya villager Alkalo Sulayman Jallow expressed similar thoughts in his speech and praised CEO Jah for identifying Bayaba as the rice hub for the entire Sami region.
He said the agricultural project was a viable and worthwhile venture that would go a long way towards solving the rice or food problem for the Sami people. It would also create jobs for young people.
He also thanked Alkali Thanks to Bayaba for allowing Mr. Jah to acquire 1,200 hectares of land in Sami State for rice production.
Mr Jallow called on government to support CEO Jha’s initiatives in rice production, describing the business magnate as a patriotic citizen.
