Xinhua News Agency, Madrid, August 25 (Reporter Chen Cong) Barcelona Football Club confirmed on the 25th that central defender Mika Faye has transferred to French football club Rennes for a transfer fee of more than 10 million euros.

“FC Barcelona and Rennes have reached an agreement on the transfer of the player Mika Faye for a fee of 10.3 million euros,” the Barcelona website reported, adding that the club “included a buy-back clause of 25 million euros and a 30% transfer fee clause in the deal.”

Fay joined Barcelona from Croatian club NK Kustosija in 2023 and made 33 appearances for the club’s B team Barca last season, making his international debut for Senegal in March this year.

He was included in the first team’s pre-season tour of the United States this summer, but due to injuries, he was unable to get much playing time, and considering that he played another season in the Spanish third division with little chance of getting regular first-team playing time, the club had been considering selling him.

The sale will ease Barcelona’s financial difficulties slightly, but it is uncertain whether they will be able to include new signing Dani Olmo in their league squad for Tuesday’s away game against Rayo Vallecano.
