This week, a delivery driver who was parked in front of the bank at 400 Chacabuco Street discovered the tunnel when he heard strange noises and decided to get out of his car to observe. It was a surprise when it was later discovered that they were building a tunnel about four meters deep to carry out robberies in financial institutions.
The man saw a thick metal rod sticking out, which is why he notified the authorities of the entity. Faced with this situation, the bank security guards notified the San Isidro First Police Station, and from that point on, the excavation work began.
Meanwhile, a technical analyst approached the bank branch to determine if the criminals had been able to gain access to the location. The expert conducted a visual inspection of the facility but did not find anything unusual and confirmed that the alarm was working properly.
After removing the pole, investigators determined that it was connected in sections, about three meters in length, and was part of the structure that the criminals later used to try to enter the bank.
Meanwhile, a security unit was set up in the area while personnel continued to search for the entrance to the tunnel, which is more than 3 meters underground.
The entrance is in a warehouse a block from the bank that was once a body and paint shop and is now used to store bags of dirt and mattresses.
