On August 14, students of the Bambari Normal School (ENI) went on a three-day strike. They demanded that the government pay the scholarships that were six months in arrears. Officials of the institution said steps were being taken to pay the scholarships to students.

Since 6am, students have blocked the entrance of the Teachers College with branches. They whistled and sang songs with pans, demanding payment of their purses. For student representative Rodolphe Koleyam, non-payment of scholarships is a punishment for them.

“We, who come from different regions, are suffering here. We have nothing, not even soap. The reason why we are demanding our rights. We, ENI, the lungs of this country, have been without money for six months. The state has not done anything for us.” He sighed.

“We found out that these students were six months in arrears of scholarship. However, we asked them to give priority to their studies as we are almost at the end of the year. Efforts are being made in parallel. We need to give more time to receive this scholarship.” said Modeste Baouanza, director of the National Teachers’ School in Bambari.
