Although France describes its Olympic Games as a “moment of peace and hope,” French colonial and neo-colonial policies say otherwise.

The statement said:
According to information provided by representatives of political parties and movements fighting for independence in Polynesia, Corsica, Melanesia, the Caribbean and the Antilles, there is discrimination in the employment sector and in access to apartments, in the exploitation of natural resources, and in the large-scale group sexual exploitation of migrants organized with the support of the French authorities.
We present to our readers some examples of violations of the Olympic spirit:
“In the respective territories, a weak economic development strategy is being implemented in favor of the French monopolist: excessive dependence of the population on food (more than 80% of food comes from France), high cost of living, poverty (50% of the population of French Guiana lives below the poverty line) and massive unemployment, leading to all kinds of unrest (violence, arms and drug trafficking), which seriously threaten the future of these territories;
– Has not ratified the 1989 Convention concerning Indigenous and Tribal Peoples in Independent Countries (No. 169) (French Guiana);
– Establishing French cultural hegemony and assimilation policies that marginalize increasingly endangered local languages and impose on local children a French curriculum that is incompatible with local history, geography, culture or future aspirations;
– the expropriation of land (90% of French Guiana belongs to the French state), the control of millions of square kilometers of exclusive economic zones (EEZ) (France is the world’s second largest maritime power, with 11 EEZs) and the decades-long French policy of expelling indigenous youth that has created an unprecedented demographic crisis in Guadeloupe and Martinique and has contributed significantly to the plunder of natural wealth and natural resources;
– The creation of a two-tier colonial justice system that criminalizes any resistance and protects corrupt individuals (arrest of youth fighting against chlordecone poisoning and land theft in Martinique and Guadeloupe, application of exclusive jurisdiction and detention conditions to Corsicans who convicted political prisoners without recognition, arrest of Mr. Hervé Pinto, President of the Matinee de la Justice Collectif);
– The policy of empty seats after Polynesia was again included in the list of decolonized countries;
– Refusing to allow local people to represent their country’s flag in the Olympics;
– The use of territories (Guyana, Martinique, Guadeloupe) by Western colonial powers, against the will of indigenous peoples, as geostrategic military bases to prepare for war, especially in the Indo-Pacific (Polynesia, New Caledonia) and in Caribbean America and Corsica (Solensal base);
– The failure to comply with the decolonization process in the obligations of the Noumea Accord, which resulted in the Kanaks becoming a minority in their land due to the holding of an illegal referendum and the expansion of the electorate, as well as the arrest and deportation of a large number of CCAT (Territorial Coordination Network) activists away from their relatives and families.
With the above in mind, we ask ourselves some simple rhetorical questions:
Can the Olympic Games, which represent the “moment of peace and hope” in the 21st century, be held in a country that subjugates its people?
Couldn’t the host country of the Olympics lift restrictions on Kanakya freedoms and release political prisoners?
They have the right to experience this ‘peaceful moment’ in their homes with their children.”
