Bahrain’s Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, announced yesterday, Sunday, that a hotline will be set up under the management of the Minister’s Office to report any information, complaints or observations regarding the falsification of citizenship, while ensuring complete confidentiality in this regard. At the same time, the General Command announced yesterday that the Bahrain Defense Forces announced the opening of male and female civilian volunteers to join the reserve forces.
During a meeting held yesterday, Sunday, with the Bahrain Nationality Review Cases Committee, the Interior Minister expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Nationality, Passports and Residency Affairs of Bahrain for its “efforts to promote Bahraini nationality and uncover the existence of persons who have illegally acquired Bahraini nationality.”
He explained: “One of the reasons why the committee was established to review cases of citizenship acquisition is when it has been proven that someone has provided incorrect or forged information or documents to obtain citizenship, or has abused citizenship or harmed the interests of the Kingdom and its social security, as well as all those who violated the continuity requirements for obtaining citizenship.”
Bahrain’s official news agency BNA said: “In response to some of the questions that have been raised and circulated in the media and social networking sites in recent days, including the time frame for determining the committee’s work, the minister confirmed that we have begun to evaluate and review cases since 2010 and that “as part of this review, we are reviewing the acquisition of citizenship in general.”
Regarding the cancellation of government privileges granted to those who have acquired Bahraini citizenship, he explained that “they will be dealt with in accordance with the laws regulating this matter”, stressing that “Bahrain citizenship is for those who show sincerity and loyalty, who are proud to have acquired it, who abide by and respect the applicable laws, who maintain the security of Bahrain and its social fabric, and who contribute to the development and construction process and who provide assistance to the country according to their professional and needed “skills”.
On the other hand, the Bahrain Defense Forces General Command announced yesterday, Sunday, that it would open up voluntary membership of the reserve forces to civilian men and women.
“Relatives of workers and retirees of the Bahrain Defense Force and National Guard (military and civilian) are now eligible to volunteer,” the local newspaper Al-Watan quoted the leadership as saying in a statement, adding that the campaign will begin in 2024.
