Charlemagne Azongnitodé (23) will have his first European experience. The central defender is now a player for the Israeli team Hapoel Petah Tikva after two training sessions in Oman.
Azonni Tod holds his first contract in Europe and is a player that head coach Omar Peretz wants to recruit. The central defender has signed a one-season contract with Hapoel Petah Tikva, plus an optional second contract. The club was relegated to the second division in 2024 and hopes to return to the elite league as soon as possible. The Benin international has reached an agreement with the club announced a few weeks ago.
The central defender, who has played at all levels for the Benin national team, U17, U20, A’ and U23 national teams, reached a milestone after two fulfilling seasons with the Omani club in the Omani First Division. The former Clarke player has established himself as one of the best players in his position and in the 2023-2024 tournament, he scored one goal in 18 games and he caught the attention of several European clubs, but it was Hapoel Petah Tikva who finally scored. It is a good deal to recruit a player whose contract expires on a free transfer.
Azonni Tod has already started pre-season preparations with his new teammates in the Land of Israel while waiting for the start of the tournament on August 22. The club will make its official debut in the cup match against Qassim on August 1.
