Inspired by Fitzroy’s music scenes, street art and hip cafes, Melbourne’s The StandardX’s interiors, designed by Hecker Guthrie, are full of fun, quirky, local flavour and personality, proving that franchising a brand doesn’t have to mean giving up on uniqueness.

It may be rock and roll, but it’s also cozy and welcoming – maybe it’s a rock star’s home, with gorgeous custom MCM furniture carefully selected by someone with sophisticated taste – and invites you to sit back and relax on their plush leather sofas.

The 125 rooms are understated, with blue and terracotta tones playing off neutral tones. Even the smallest rooms make clever use of space, with windows offering views of the city.

While Melbourne’s north suburbs are home to some of the city’s best restaurants, The StandardX has joined the fray with the opening of BANG, a Thai-inspired restaurant on the ground floor, helmed by Melbourne-born chef Justin Dingle-Garciyya, whose resume includes Aman Resorts.

Soon, a guest-only Mercado Medellin market will open on the rooftop, serving Mexican food and drinks.
