SBS Australia reports on Australia’s first Olympic breakdancer, Raygun

Rachael Gunn, better known as Raygun, has made history as Australia’s first Olympic breakdancer. Despite failing to win her group stage, the 36-year-old showed off her creative talents at the Paris Games.

Gunn, a lecturer at Macquarie University who holds a PhD in breakdancing, began her breakdancing journey in her 20s after being inspired by her husband. Her training focuses on strength and technique, emphasizing creativity over power moves.

Raigan told SBS Australia she believed the Olympics would boost understanding and support for breakdancing. She balanced academics with sport and her participation marked a milestone, with her dedication inspiring others.
