Cab’It is a youth-led transport company that has tapped into the country’s growing digital economy, taking online orders and delivering goods from suppliers to customers across Honiara.
Australia, through the Solomon Islands Australia Partnership, has announced support for emerging Solomon Islands delivery service Cab’It to expand and streamline its operations.
Cab’It is a youth-led transport company that has tapped into the country’s growing digital economy, taking online orders and delivering goods from suppliers to customers across Honiara.
With Australia’s support, Cab’It will hire a sales representative to onboard more suppliers, enhance ordering and payment systems, and purchase two additional e-scooters for deliveries.
Funding will also be used for administrative training and to support the development of a mobile app to streamline the customer experience.
Australian High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, Mr Rod Hilton, expressed enthusiasm for working with young local entrepreneurs.
“Australia is committed to supporting innovative businesses like Cab’It that play a vital role in digital transformation, economic growth and job creation in the Solomon Islands,” said High Commissioner Hilton.
“The digital economy has great potential in the Solomon Islands, particularly in providing greater opportunities for women, youth and people with disabilities through self-employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.”
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Solomon Islands’ digital economy has continued to grow, with more retail and home businesses exploring online services to reach more customers.
Despite this growing trend, delivery success is often hampered by a lack of delivery services or high costs.
Cab’It is the only business filling this gap and is currently working with food suppliers and restaurants in Honiara to make deliveries using cars and e-scooters.
We are also exploring the provision of transport services by ship and aircraft to Malaita, Western Province and other areas of Guadalcanal.
Cab’It managing director and owner John Junior Wanofafia thanked the Australian Government for its support.
“This assistance will enable us to improve our services, reach more customers, and create new jobs, especially for young people in Solomon Islands. Our goal is to provide a reliable and affordable delivery service while also contributing to the growth of the digital economy,” said Mr Vanofafia.
Cab’It’s expansion is expected to significantly increase daily deliveries, create new jobs and build partnerships with a wider range of local businesses.
As the Solomon Islands’ digital economy continues to grow, this initiative will play a key role in shaping a more inclusive and prosperous future.
