Suva, Fiji – Friday, June 19, 2024: The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) is pleased to announce the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) as Platinum Sponsors of the 2024 HOTEC Trade Show.

This partnership marks another important step in expanding our supplier opportunities, thereby strengthening the travel and hospitality industry’s ability to offer quality choices to local and international visitors.

The agreement was recently signed by Austrade CEO Ms Fantasha Lockington and Australia’s Trade Commissioner for the Pacific and Timor-Leste, Mr Tim Houghton, who signed the agreement on behalf of Austrade and the Timor-Leste Think Tank.

Mr Horton said HOTEC was a unique opportunity to showcase Australian products to the Pacific hospitality industry. “We have a huge range of meat, horticulture and beverages on offer so there’s something for everyone who comes!”

“I’m also excited to be working with TIQ and its Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for the Pacific, Ms Leata Alaimoana, who has done so much to deepen Queensland’s business relationship with the Pacific, and HOTEC will further develop that relationship. Together we are poised to raise the profile of all the great exporters we represent – who all want to work with the tourism and hospitality industry here.”

“Queensland is committed to the Pacific region and is widely regarded as the gateway to the Pacific, a role we take very seriously and respect,” Ms Alaimoana said.
“Queensland already has two-way trade relationships in avocados, ginger, kava and beverages and HOTEC provides a great opportunity to share more of Queensland’s flavour to support the fast-growing and thriving tourism industry in Fiji and across the Pacific.

“As a Platinum Sponsor of HOTEC, our partnership with Austrade will be further strengthened. Supporting Queensland companies to join the Australian team gives them the best opportunity to further build the important connections that HOTEC provides,” she added.

As Platinum Sponsors, Austrade and TIQ will play a key role in providing interested suppliers with the opportunity to promote their products and services to Fiji and the Pacific region, and have the privilege of showcasing Australian wines and ingredients at the HOTEC Awards Night and Dinner in October.

“We are very pleased to welcome Austrade and TIQ to the HOTEC Trade Show in 2024. Their partnership with us again for another HOTEC Trade Show demonstrates their commitment to promoting business growth and innovation in Fiji’s tourism industry,” Ms Lockington said.

“Together with our other sponsors and partners, we are committed to making trade shows like this more innovative and attractive and we look forward to making HOTEC 2024 a success, with Austrade and TIQ now confirming their support.”

In addition to Austrade and TIQ, FHTA is proud to have the continued support of its Gold Sponsor New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. Competition partners for the event include APTC, Fiji Gas and South Pacific Coffee Company, and FHTA is also grateful for the contributions of its event partners: Fiji Water, Microhire, The Fiji Times, Fiji Airways, Sharma Music and Total Event Company.
