Police suspect that the Aturugiria shooting this morning (July 8) was a carefully planned murder-for-hire plot hatched from abroad.
Speaking to the media, police spokesperson, Director General of Police Nihal Thalduwa said that two T-56 guns were used in the shooting, which left two persons, including Surendra Wasantha Perera alias “Club Wasantha”, dead and four others injured.
The injured are being treated at the Colombo National Hospital and Homagama Hospital.
Responding to a query, DIG Thalduwa also confirmed that one of the cartridges found at the crime scene had KPI engraved on it.
Based on this, law enforcement officials suspect that underworld boss Kanjipani Imran, who is currently overseas, may be involved in the incident.
