The Golanska Coast Police Department announced on Friday that police found and arrested a 37-year-old man from Kastva at the Gunj border crossing who was suspected of setting fire to a Kastva family’s house in early August.
Police reported that they had opened a criminal investigation into a 37-year-old Croatian citizen on suspicion of starting a fire at a residence in the Casteva area on August 8.
It was not until August 21 that he was spotted by police from the Vukovar-Srejem police station at the Gonja border crossing, where he was arrested and detained for criminal investigation.
A criminal investigation revealed sufficient evidence to suspect that he used flammable liquids to cause a fire in a house where two people (one of whom was motionless) were present and fled in an unknown direction.
The motionless woman was then led out of the house and rescued by police.
After the criminal investigation was concluded, the 37-year-old man was reported to the competent state prosecutor’s office for the criminal offence of endangering life and property by general dangerous acts or means and was transferred to the supervisory supervisor.
The law provides for a prison sentence of six months to five years for generally dangerous acts or methods that endanger life and property.
