Prime Minister and Foreign Minister His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani attended yesterday in Brussels a meeting of the Ministerial Committee designated by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Developments in the Gaza Strip, with foreign ministers and representatives of European countries, to discuss the urgent need to end the sectoral war and take the necessary steps to implement a two-State solution.
The conference was a follow-up to one hosted in the Saudi capital of Riyadh last April, which focused on efforts to implement a two-state solution, including recognition of a Palestinian state.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Indonesia, the Kingdom of Norway, the Federal Republic of Austria, the Kingdom of Belgium, the Kingdom of Denmark, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Ireland, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Portugal, Romania, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Slovenia, the Kingdom of Spain, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Swiss Confederation, the United Kingdom, as well as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the European Union.
The meeting expressed support for efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire, the release of prisoners and detainees, an end to the war in the Gaza Strip and all illegal unilateral measures and violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including control of the Rafah crossing, and resolution of the catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
The meeting discussed concrete steps towards establishing a Palestinian state in the context of a two-state solution and embarking on a political path that supports a sustainable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The meeting stressed the need for the international community to recognize the State of Palestine and adopt a comprehensive approach to implement the two-State solution in a credible and irreversible path based on international law and agreed standards, including resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, the Arab Peace Initiative and other relevant initiatives, aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace that meets the rights of the Palestinian people and regional security, paving the way for normal relations among the countries of the region where stability, security, peace and cooperation prevail.
