At least three killed in stabbing at anniversary party in Solingen, Germany

At least three people were killed in a stabbing at an anniversary party in Solingen, a city near Düsseldorf, Germany. Four others were seriously injured. According to German media reports, the perpetrator is on the run.

The stabbing took place in a square in the city where a concert was being held to mark the city’s 650th anniversary. The man was said to have acted alone and was trying to kill as many victims as possible. All events in the city were cancelled until Sunday following the attack.

“We are all shocked, horrified and deeply saddened,” Solingen Mayor Tim Kurzbach responded. “We wanted to celebrate our city’s anniversary together, but now we have to mourn the dead and the injured. I have tears in my eyes when I think of those we have lost. I pray for everyone who is still fighting for their lives.”
