Recently, the board of directors of the Icelandic composers and librettists association STEF decided to launch an innovative initiative to reward promising composers in conjunction with the annual Cultural Night concert held in the backyard of Laufásveg 40 in Reykjavík. The award was given for the first time this year and the winner is Anna Gréta Sigurðardóttir, Asgeir Bragi Egisson and Katrin Helga Olafsdottir But Ásgeir Bragi, who calls himself Ouse, is from Sauðárkrók.

An announcement on the STEF website states that the winners have in common that they have all recently exhibited “Rapid success as a composer”as stated in the accompanying award document. “This indicator is that the circulation of recent seasons has increased significantly as a result of the public performance of their works. With this recognition, the board hopes to encourage these authors to further praise.”

Reviews for Ásgeir Braga state that he was born and raised in Sauðárkrók. “At the age of 17, he began to create and release music under the stage name ‘Ouse’. As a result, he moved to Akureyri and later to Reykjavík to better pursue his career. In recent years, he has collaborated with several foreign performers, mostly Americans, but he lived in Los Angeles for a while. His music is best defined as “hip-hop”, but his songs have been played millions of times, with one song, “Dead Eyes”, having been played over 100 million times on Spotify.

At the award-giving Backyard Concert, Króksars Arnar Freyr and Helgi Sæmundur played in Ulfur accompanied by Scandinavian guitar talent Reyni Snæ.

Fekir congratulated Asgheri Bulaga on the honour.
