Human rights groups say there has been an increase in arrests by armed groups in different regions of Ethiopia.
Dr Adam Keys, a political science and law expert working at the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Support in the Netherlands, said restrictions were becoming another source of income in addition to peace and security issues. They said the solution was to talk to the armed groups and try to resolve the issue through a political solution.
On the other hand, the abducted residents said they were psychologically damaged after paying the money and being released and returning to their families.
We attempted to include the government’s response to this issue but were unsuccessful.
