A Robin Boyd enthusiast has purchased two of the architect’s mid-century homes on Melbourne’s western fringe and will become the third owner since they were built.
The house, located in Long Forest near Bacchus Marsh, was listed with a price guide of $2 million to $2.2 million and sold within that range.
The site covers 12.5 hectares and is surrounded by bushland. 305-307 Changlin Road It consists of two houses.
The Boyd Baker House has five bedrooms, two living areas, polished concrete floors, floor-to-ceiling windows and stone walls, all surrounding a central courtyard and is registered with the Victorian Heritage Council. The house was designed by Boyd for Dr Michael Baker, a mathematics lecturer at the University of Melbourne, and built in the 1960s.
Built with similar materials and curved interior walls, the two-bedroom Dower House was the residence of Baker’s mother-in-law.
The only other owners of the two houses are architectural philanthropist and lawyer Peter Mitrakas and his wife Mary Ann, who purchased the house in 2006. The sellers hoped to find the right buyer for the renowned architect’s project and decided to continue renovating the centuries-old property in Europe.

Guests have used the homes as wedding venues or short-term rentals.
The seller was represented by Nathan Cleeland and Patrick Kerr of LAWD. Cleeland declined to comment on the sale price but said the buyer was an owner-occupier and Robin Boyd enthusiast who liked the architecture and wanted to maintain the property.
