MADRID (Portaltic/EP) – Apple has changed its standard repair and warranty policy for iPhone and Apple Watch to stop covering small cracks on the screen, which from now on will be considered accidents and therefore the responsibility of the user.

The brand’s standard one-year warranty never covers cosmetic damage, such as scratches, dents, or breaks in the charging port’s plastic, as described on its website.

On the other hand, as 9to5Mac recalls, it is responsible for covering the so-called hairline cracks, that is, cracks that appear on the screens of its devices, but without showing clear points of impact that could have caused them.

According to the outlet, Apple would choose to modify this section and stop including repairs for these damages in its standard warranty to start classifying them as accidental damage or user-caused damage.

Specifically, it will contact the brand’s stores and authorized service providers to announce this change in its repair policy so that users of iPhone and Apple Watch devices will pay for the services that have been free of charge to date from the date of purchase.

On the other hand, minor cracks found on iPads and Macs will still be covered by the product warranty when sent to Apple stores and repair shops.
