In Nickeri, angry farmers completely blocked the area around Henar on Friday night, including access to the Henar bridge.
This will cause concern among rice farmers. There have been protests for several days.. They are not happy with the compensation the Surinamese government wants to give them.
Authorities have deployed soldiers and Surinamese police forces to maintain security and order in the area (photo).
As the video below shows, the scene was intense. Eventually, the roadblock was lifted as armed forces were deployed.
