Tegucigalpa– Securities Analyst Agustin Guerrero Many women in Honduras are losing their lives because they are not protected by the justice system, the Justice Ministry said on Wednesday.
“The laws in this country are weak and we need to strengthen the penal system so that we can live in a safer country,” he stressed.
Analysts believe that Honduran institutions and the judicial system are decisive factors in the safety of citizens.
“If we have responsible people leading this country on the path it should be on, Hondurans here will be safe. We have to trust people with integrity to make these institutions work and provide better security for the people,” he said.
According to a statement by women’s rights defenders, there have been more than 120 cases of femicide in the country so far.
Honduras is the country reporting the highest level of gender equality in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the Observatory for Gender Equality (OIG) of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Femicide rate highest in 2022.
