Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Bassam Ibrahim explained to The National that the “commercialization” centers of universities will continue to work to support the remote registration mechanism, with the focus on universities providing all the equipment and supplies allocated for it. In coordination with the National Union of Syrian Students, it was revealed that the working team has begun to study high school grades and follow up on all relevant details to prepare for the admission comparison.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Education held an information meeting on general differentiated special preparation and admission preparation and its guidelines for the 2024-2025 school year, with the presence of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Dean of Informatics, the Central Director and the technical team at the Ministry.
Ibrahim said that this year the differentiation will continue to be done electronically so that students can submit their wishes through their mobile phones, laptops or computers, besides preparing centers to receive students in all universities to help them on how to apply.
He added that students have two options, either to apply for selection at home or through the centre, noting that the Ministry of Education has approved electronic selection and remote access, provided that the bill is paid through electronic payment, which includes stamps and some small fees.
The minister said that the Higher Education Commission and the Supreme Council of Technical Education will hold a special meeting next Thursday to discuss the university preferences and determine the absorption capacity of each college, department or major based on the proposals and the university council to make a presentation to the Supreme Committee for University Admissions headed by the Prime Minister, which is scheduled to meet next week to discuss and absorb the universities’ capacity and take appropriate decisions in this regard.
Subsequently, Nour Haboub, Director of Student Affairs at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, introduced the mechanisms and procedures for university admissions and application differentiation.
Haboob revealed that a study of high school grades has begun in preparation for the release of a university admission comparison next month, which shows that the number of successful students this academic year has decreased by about 35,000 students, and pointed out that the current number of successful students in science and literature has reached 115,000, compared with about 150,000 last year, and the number of people who obtained full marks has even decreased.
Haboob showed a decrease in all grades, showing that there were about 6,000 male and female students with scores of more than 2,300 in the “Medical Part – Preparatory Year”, while there were about 12,700 students last year, a decrease of half. Under the follow-up and attention of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, this is considered a positive indicator of a decrease in the admission rate this year.
Habu pointed out that the purpose of the seminar was to train cadres to understand the mechanism of applying for differentiation and the development it brings, while also making some corrections to the problems encountered in last year’s comparison, most of which were mistakes made in applying for differentiation. Students did not record their wishes carefully.
Haboob explained that all types of distinctions will be issued in one card, including scholarships for private university medical colleges, except for distinctions for other majors in private universities, which will be issued after the university admission distinctions are issued.
Ahmed Yaqoubi, Director of Informatics at the Ministry of Higher Education, spoke about the technical issues related to applying for differentiation and the mechanism that students must follow through the mobile application or web application.
