Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Abdul Rahman said he would prefer to continue leading the state rather than taking up a federal ministerial post.
(New Standard Time) – He said to date, he had not received any information indicating that he would be transferred out of Selangor and join the federal cabinet.
He, however, added that as a loyal party member, he would perform any duties assigned by the party leadership.
“To ensure continuity in planning for the Selangor state, I chose to stay because I want to ensure that all aspects of RS-1 benefit the people and that our promises are delivered.
“In my opinion, this may affect the state and party’s performance. But as a disciplined party member, I will abide by and fulfil any responsibility given to me today and in the future,” he said after launching the People’s Tuition Programme Selangor (PTRS) 2024 at the Dewan Raja Muda Musa.
Amirudin made the remarks in response to speculation that PKR state ministers could be appointed as full ministers.
He also mentioned that he did not know the motive behind the rumours that he might be appointed as a minister.
“I don’t know the intention behind these rumours. Based on (earlier) reports, I should have been removed from the position of Menteri Besar long ago,” he said.
Reacting to reports that Selangor may consider reshuffling the state executive council membership after one year in power, Amirudin said such action would be taken as necessary.
“The speculation about state-level reshuffle is also a good reminder for everyone to work harder to serve the people and ensure we deliver on our promises.
“Reshuffles can happen at any time due to illness, death or other reasons.
“But currently, I have a strong team in Selangor who work well together. However, I admit that after a year of management, we need to improve our performance to strengthen our services,” he added.
