America’s Immigration… Its Great Secret – Arab Website

America’s greatness was and still is its embrace of the tens of thousands of immigrants, men and women, who pour into the country each year, most of them educated people who enrich its institutions, corporations, universities, factories, banks, and media, thereby contributing to the consolidation of its world hegemony.

Yet, the discussion about the “dangers” of immigrants continues in a populist discourse that mixes morbid obsession (both individual and collective), racism, and malicious political charlatanry! Not a day goes by that an American politician, clergyman, or social commentator entertains us with his trivial (and unfortunately influential) opinions about immigrants – “legal” or “illegal” – and the dangers they pose to America’s present and future.

American society is divided on this issue, with those who support and those who oppose strict policies on these immigrants, but the majority supports a certain degree of strict measures in dealing with immigration issues. The evidence to prove this is that the strategy, methods, rhythm and number of deportations of “illegal” immigrants during Donald Trump’s presidency were exactly the same as those during the Barack Obama era, and things have continued in the same way in Joe Biden’s current period.

The stoning of immigrants intersects with the problem that America also knows that its future depends on them (legal or illegal) because they – and here is the irony or the paradox – ensure the continuity of its system, which is based on brutal capitalism. The word. The immigration issue is a politically sensitive topic that can be used to serve malicious political goals, even for those who know very well that without immigration problems, the luxuries and privileges they have received are not sustainable. The danger of this issue is that politicians who reject it are unwilling to find solutions, not because they are incapable of doing so, but because they are using it to manipulate the emotions of voters, both men and women, and especially their supporters (whether they are for or against immigration). Constant talk about immigration and immigration in the campaign.

This is nothing new or exceptional. It is an ever-debated topic, but the Biden administration is pursuing the same dirty policies as the Trump and Obama administrations and faces the same challenges as previous administrations: difficulty in stemming the flow of migrants, especially in states bordering Mexico; problems with reception centers (I prefer to describe them as: detention centers and humiliation centers); inefficient tracking systems for migrants when they leave “reception” centers, etc. On top of that, major cities (e.g. New York, Chicago, Boston, etc.) face huge challenges in receiving and housing these migrants.

Immigrating to the United States is not always a wonderful experience, nor is it the product of open choices and economic abundance. Most immigrant men and women are forced to leave their countries in search of a better life for themselves and their families, or to escape war, discrimination, or other factors. Ironically, in most cases, these factors are the product of U.S. foreign policy, especially in Latin America. Their presence in the United States is, in most cases, a positive thing, as they provide cheap labor and contribute to the ethnic diversity of American society.

What’s more, they work in professions that most Americans refuse to do, such as agricultural and livestock production, garbage collection and sorting, shipping, construction, painting, gardening, teaching, etc. Call them “illegals”. » They work “out in the open” and in full view of everyone. We see them everywhere: in cafes, restaurants, hotels and on the sidewalks (especially in New York, with the spread of the phenomenon of “illegal” immigrants driving bicycles to deliver meals to offices and homes, most of whom are from Latin America, Africa or South Asia).

Without such immigrants to do these types of work, in some cases and places, it would be impossible to find such people to do such work. I end the article with a conversation I had with a student of my university (Smith) in early May, I asked her what she would do in the summer, and she replied that she would go to the city of Utah to work in the office of a Republican senator, her job would be to help illegal immigrants. I asked her with some suspicion: but the senator you work with is known for his hostility to immigrants, how could he have an office to help these illegal immigrants? She replied that the position of senator is a necessary political trick in Washington, but in Utah, without these positions, the state’s economy cannot function, and he helps them because his male and female voters ask him to do so. Yes, the greatness of America lies in its male and female immigrants.
