On Thursday evening, American Airlines Flight 850, en route from Miami to Kingston, overran the runway at Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) due to heavy rain.

The plane landed at around 9:35 p.m., 1 hour and 46 minutes after its scheduled arrival time. The delay was reportedly due to delays at Miami International Airport.

The accident reportedly damaged the aircraft’s engine, landing lights and other parts. It is not yet clear how injured the passengers were.

Richard Pandohie, a passenger on the flight, recounted the experience on social media platform X. He described the flight as “bumpy and even a little scary,” but expressed gratitude that the flight landed safely.

“Despite the extensive damage to the aircraft, we are thankful to have landed safely… The American Airlines crew was calm and professional… Life always reminds us that every day is a blessing,” Pandohi wrote.
