Ambassador Sarato meets with the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries

Solomon Islands Ambassador to China, His Excellency Barrett Sarato, paid a courtesy visit to the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries on Tuesday afternoon (18 June 2024).

Secretary-General Shen Xin welcomed Chairman Sarato’s visit to the China People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

He briefed Ambassador Sarato on the overall situation of the work carried out by the China Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Solomon Islands Friendship Association since 2016.

Areas of discussion included the continued emphasis on training opportunities for Solomon Islanders and local level collaboration between the two countries.

Mr. Sarato appreciated the opportunity to meet with and introduce himself to the National Friendship Association.

He conveyed the Solomon Islands government’s gratitude to the Chinese government for its assistance to the Solomon Islands over the past four years.

Ambassador Sarato reiterated that the Solomon Islands adheres to the one-China principle and respects China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During the dialogue, His Excellency Sarato and CPAFFC Secretary General Shen Zhijun discussed the importance of trade and investment and how the private sector can contribute to the development of bilateral relations between the Solomon Islands and the People’s Republic of China.

His Excellency Sarato stressed that the Solomon Islands needs to diversify its exports to China from forestry products, mainly logs, to agricultural and fishery products, so the two countries need to conclude a sanitary and phytosanitary protocol to enable these products to be exported to the Chinese market.

Ambassador Sarato stressed that the continued growth and development of bilateral relations is of vital importance.

Secretary-General Shin expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s remarks and said the agency would continue to provide support to promote the development of relations between the two countries.

He expressed his willingness to enhance the understanding between the two peoples and inject new vitality into the friendly relations between the two countries through people-to-people diplomacy and friendly provincial and state relations.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the China People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, so Mr. Shen extended an invitation to Mr. Sarato, who accepted the invitation and congratulated the association for the work it has done and will continue to do.
