Last year, more than 11,500 people who came to the metropolis in search of education had nowhere to go. This year, the shortage of places has been reduced by 3,000. This academic year, 10 dormitory buildings will be put into use across the city. The representatives of the Ministry of Education have assured that no student will be left out.
This is Dormitory No. 9 of the Kazakh National University of Al-Farabi. The parliamentarian personally inspected the conditions there. Later, the video was posted on social networks and became widely known. After that, serious restoration work began on the building. “This dormitory was built in 1969. We plan to restore it this year,” said the university management.
Sabit Suatay, Vice President of Social Development at Kazu (named after Al-Farabi):
– After the students return, we are preparing for a major renovation. Currently, the dormitories are 70% ready. We expect to receive 7-8 thousand students. If the total number of students is 28 thousand, the university can now offer places for 500,890 students.
There may not be enough space to accommodate 3,500 students. However, the educational institution is not sitting idly by. Students who do not have hostels will be accommodated in dormitories. Other universities are doing the same.
Akilke Abilakhan, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
– Of course, there will be universities that have contracts with private hotels and hostels due to the shortage in the city of Almaty. Multiple universities jointly train students there. But another passenger from other routes should not stay there, either in a private student dormitory or in a hotel.
This year, 10 hostels will be opened in Almaty. Only one belongs to a higher education institution. The rest were built entirely with the support of investors. There are more than 5,000 seats.
