Mr Fernando said the 92 members of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna did not oppose the party’s decision and some of them were still taking action.
This was stated by Congressman Johnston Fernando in a special statement to the media in Colombo.
Mr Johnston Fernando said that Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe came to Parliament with a picture of Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa and said that they had asked him to go to the village to vote for the local parliamentary candidate and make Mr Rajapaksa the Prime Minister.
He said that since the vote base of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa, people would not leave the party and those who left would receive 200, 500 or 1,000 votes.
He said that no matter who steps down, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will not fall and the United People’s Party will govern the country by retaining three MPs.
He mentioned Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe who when Mr. Premadasa who was part of the struggle was beaten and driven away, he demanded that those who beat the people of the struggle who had 17 tents be elected president and who raised taxes by beating and driving away the people, the president was demanded.
Mr Fernando said the people knew the reasons why people left the party and if the party decided to support Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe, they would go to Sajabeh.
Johnston Fernando said if that happens, he would go to save the case, saying the party would put forward a candidate who could get more than 1.5 million new votes.
