All About the Jersey hopes you can preview and review the Devils games

A new season is coming, and with it comes new opportunities. Before the 2024 preseason and 2024-25 regular season, New Jersey Devilswe have a staff vacancy. Caleb has decided to work on other things outside of the site. We wish him the best. This means there is a vacancy on the All About the Jersey roster to preview and review games. I hope one of you, the people who matter, will fill that spot.

Position

This position mainly involves writing and publishing two types of posts.

1. Race preview posts to help readers prepare for the race on the morning the race is scheduled.

2. Game recap posts summarizing what happened in the game and your thoughts on what happened.

The person in this position will be responsible for deciding which contest dates you will be doing previews and reviews on, communicating if you need any guidance or support, and getting the previews and reviews out in a timely manner. This person will also have the opportunity to support collaborations with some or all of the writers. This position will be compensated with a small monthly stipend.

Require

#1) Become a New Jersey Devils fan. As always, this is a Devils blog for Devils fans, by Devils fans, so you should be a Devils fan, too.

#2) Become a registered user and Users who are not banned. If you haven’t signed up for AAtJ yet, then please do so ASAP. It’s free, it allows you to join many other bloggers on the web, and you can actively participate in the site. If you’re banned, then this doesn’t work. After all, if you can’t follow the rules, I don’t know how you can follow instructions on how to post or when you need to post. Not to mention that being banned here means this community is not for you. This is not Reddit or Facebook.

#3) It’s well-written and well-reasoned. You don’t have to be a perfect or particularly skilled writer – I’m definitely not – but you have to at least take this seriously. No one comes here to read the standard platitudes published by any mainstream journalist or to hear some lame critic preach the same narrative over and over again. This is a site created by fans for fans, and we want to hear your perspective as a fan.

One of the important reasons why AAtJ is so highly regarded is that the articles are well-written (repeat after me: good enough is good enough), the arguments are supported by facts (you should Relevance your sources/references), write with respect to the reader (and the players, you’ll notice it’s not just “the defense sucks”, it’s “the defense sucks because…”) Content will be posted regularly (on a schedule you help develop). You don’t need to write exactly like me, Chris, Jackson, Jared, James, Alex, Gerald, Nate, Tyler, or anyone else. While there is some general formatting to these posts, I and the people who matter most want to read them. your Express your own opinions in your posts. We do want to try to make sure that everything we say has a substantive basis.

#4) Stick to the plan. I have and will continue to allow race preview/recap crews to select mid-month which races they would like to cover for the following month. This way, all participants can select dates that work with their schedules. Any open spots will either be assigned or asked about individually as the following month approaches. If you have a date set for a preview or recap, you will do so barring any emergencies. Previews are expected to be posted by 8am EST on the day of the race. Recaps are expected to be posted within 6 hours of the race. For any evening races on the West Coast, the next morning will be fine.

#5) Willing to actively participate in community activities. Unlike many other platforms on the internet, the comments section is not your enemy or a cesspool. Sure, we are important people. Readers enjoy arguments, but generally in good faith and politely. I expect authors to be willing to engage and interact with other important people about their posts and other people’s posts. We may disagree, except to wish the devil great, but we generally get along. That’s what makes a site like this so different from a series of sermons and essays.

#6) Have communication skills. Since you will be part of an internet blog, it is vital that you are easily reachable via email and can maintain open communication with me and the other authors. Occasionally, there may be something to discuss between all the authors, or I would like you to get involved in a team effort, e.g. Voting for the top 25 Devils players under 25 years old. Maybe I or someone else will want to tell you something. Maybe I need to tell you something so I need to know if you will see it and respond. Maybe something comes up and real life demands a change of plans – I can understand that, but I wish you would actually tell me instead of shirking your commitment or turning a blind eye to us.

#7) Be prepared to put your real name on your posts. If you are chosen for this position, then I hope you write under your real name. If what you write is worth reading, then it’s worth knowing who wrote it. It’s better for important people to appreciate your work by name than by a pseudonym. Don’t worry about your account. It’s easy to change your username.

How to Apply

My goal is to fill this position as quickly as possible, starting in late September at the latest. Ideally, I would like to fill this position before the start of the team’s preseason. This will allow me ample time to consider all entrants, prepare anyone I select, guide them through the process, and get them started right away. Since this is a preview and review position, you should submit your entrant application in this manner.

1. Choose a game you like 2024-25 season(The schedule is here) and write a game preview for it. For any stats, injuries, current status comments, feel free to use current information as this submission is for my review only. It will not be posted on the site. (Hint: writing “as of this writing” or something similar will help your cause)

• In your trailer, make sure to include accurate broadcast information.
• You can and should link to the source of any cited data, tweets, videos, and/or articles.
• Since this is a game preview, the goal is to give readers of the Devils Blog an idea of ​​what to expect from the game. I’m not going to tell you how to write a preview; but when writing a preview, please consider the following questions: Does this game preview help readers prepare for the game that night? Does this preview help readers understand who the opponent is, what/who they should watch out for, what the Devils should/shouldn’t do against them, etc.?
• Since this is a preview of future games, you can use last season’s data as a reference point. I personally recommend using NHL.com and Natural Statistics Techniques But other statistics sites are also okay.
• I recommend you read the other game previews in our archive for inspiration. If you need an example, Then you can read what I wrote back in March for the Devils and Kings game. (PS: This ended up being Lindy Ruff’s last game in New Jersey) No, don’t write it like I did. This is just a reference for what might be in the game preview.

In addition: Please no Send me any attachments. Keep the preview in the email. If your preview is in an attachment, it will be rejected unless I grant permission.

3. I strongly recommend that you don’t delay, because I’m interested in accepting the first preview of a game that impresses me and the person who wrote the preview confirms that they’re willing to take the role. But I also don’t want to just accept the first person who submits something. To that end, I won’t review anything until Friday, August 15this will give you both a little time to think about whether you are able and willing to do it and make the essay as good as possible. Any submissions received before August 15 will be deleted without being read. So act promptly, but don’t rush. You still have some time. Use it.
