The Taraba State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has called on the people of the state, especially those of Jalingo, the state capital, to reconsider their upcoming protests in light of the significant efforts made by the state governor, Agbu Kefas.
The association, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the state ALGON Chairman, Aminu Hassan, strongly called on youths, women, clubs and associations within the Jalingo Council to stay away from the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.
Hassan, who is also the chairman of Jalingo House of Assembly, pleaded with the public to acknowledge the development projects initiated by the governor and ignore the calls for protest.
“I urge you to reconsider this protest considering the numerous commendable efforts made by our Governor, His Excellency Agbu Kefasi, for the betterment of Taraba State,” Hassan said.
He highlighted achievements like free education, introduction of minimum wage, humanitarian aid, affordable higher education and opined that the people of the Assembly and the state at large need to distance themselves from the impending nationwide protests which cannot be over-emphasized.
“I strongly call on all youths, women, clubs and associations within Jalingo Local Government Council to join the nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024; while the spirit of activism and desire to voice concerns is commendable, I urge you to reconsider this protest considering the numerous commendable efforts made by our Excellency, the Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefasi, for the betterment of our dear state.”
He believes the proposed protests could undermine the governor’s current efforts and paint a picture of disunity at a time when unity and support are vital, and he believes people need to have a conversation that would go a long way toward correcting the wrongs.
“Let us unite, engage in constructive dialogue and work together to support the continued progress of our state as together we can build a stronger and more prosperous Taraba State.”
