Yesterday, the Secretary General of the Council of Senior Scholars of Al-Azhar Sharif University published a fatwa on its official Facebook page, banning the controversial “Aviator” game on the Internet and electronic gaming platforms. Abbas Shoman of Azhar Al-Sharif confirmed that the Aviator game represents a type of gambling forbidden by God Almighty, so both its players and cafes that allow players to practice the game on their devices are guilty.
The secretary general of the Council of Senior Scholars also stressed that “financial gains from games are prohibited money because they include gambling or prohibited financial bets.” Shawman explained that financial competitions that rely entirely on luck are strictly prohibited because they go against the principles of Islam and can lead to addiction and waste of money.
