The project aims to enhance water security in the Aden Governorate by drilling and equipping 10 wells in the Ahmed field using renewable energy, supplying and installing a solar power plant with a capacity of (600) kilowatts, which will help reduce dependence on electricity in operating water wells and reduce the cost per unit of water produced.

The project will carry out training activities to build the capacity of site workers and technicians to use and operate the solar station. The project will also build and equip an administrative facility to increase the water production capacity of the area. The building manages the site and controls the solar station.

The project to enhance water security using renewable energy is one of the development projects implemented by the Saudi Yemen Development and Reconstruction Program and the Sirah Development Fund within the framework of the bilateral partnership in Yemen, aimed at strengthening water security for the Yemeni people and promoting sustainable development.

Energy technology is one of the most important technologies in use today, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide safe drinking water.

The project to strengthen water security using renewable energy in Aden was launched after the completion of the project to improve the quality of life in Yemen using renewable energy, which has been implemented in five provinces of Yemen, namely: (Hadramawt, Abyan, Lahj, Hodeidah, Taiz), benefiting more than 62 million people.

The Saudi Yemen Development and Reconstruction Plan proposes development projects and initiatives that will help enhance water resources and their sustainability in urban and rural areas, including 32 development projects and initiatives in the water sector that will help meet daily needs through water management. The most notable impact of the plan’s support to Yemen’s water sector is that 100% of the water needs of Socotra Governorate are met through an integrated and sustainable water system. The water needs of Al-Qaidah City in Mahrah Governorate are met, and 10% of the water needs of Aden Governorate are met.

The Saudi Yemen Development and Reconstruction Program also provides for more than 229 development projects and initiatives to serve our Yemeni brothers in eight basic and important sectors, namely: education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, capacity building of government institutions, and development programs.

It is worth noting that the Serra Development Foundation previously won the Prince Talal International Human Development Award in 2019 in the field of “Clean Water and Sanitation”, which is the sixth goal of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
