The deal is the biggest breakthrough yet achieved by Israel and Hamas in the Gaza war, which saw Hamas and Israel agree to a four-day ceasefire in Gaza and the release of 50 prisoners.

Qatar, Egypt and the United States have successfully brokered a humanitarian ceasefire between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). The ceasefire is expected to begin in the next 24 hours and last for four days, with the possibility of an extension.

According to a statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, the agreement stipulates the release of 50 civilian women and children hostages held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for a number of Palestinian women and children held in Israeli prisons. The number of releases will increase in the subsequent stages of the implementation of the agreement.

The statement added that the humanitarian pause would also facilitate the entry of more humanitarian convoys and aid supplies, including fuel designated for humanitarian purposes.

Qatar reiterated its commitment to ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, stop the bloodshed and protect civilians. In this regard, Qatar commended the efforts of Egypt and the United States to reach this agreement.
